A 6 port mpi?
Greetingz CocoNutz!!
Before I get started, there’s an elephant in the room that needs addressing. A while back, L. Curtis Boyle (not calling you out, nothing but respect man
) mentioned it looked like AI art on my site. He’s not entirely wrong. I’m too tired with some health issues, and too busy to do my own art for my websites. So I uploaded a sketch for a few of the characters, and let AI generate a scene based on the image and a description I provide. If they come out looking semi accurate to what I want, and a litle zany, I use them.
Welcome to another episode of the labroom of misfit CoCo accessories. This time, we have a device I have never seen in the wild before. Since I came back to CoCoLand in 2006, I’ve witnessed many MPI variants pass thru eBay to the great beyond. I bought quite a few of them – working or not. Fixed the ones that needed it. Eventually, I passed them on to others – specifically in 2017 when I moved north (WTF was I thinking?!).
In that time, I have never seen a C-C Bus, by PBJ. Aside from the cheesy ‘case’ (yes, I use that term lightly), the PCB itself seems to be of interesting origin. When I first posted pics on Facebook, sveral people thought it was etched in someone’s garage. I strongly disagreed. Board houses like PCBWay simply didn’t exist back then, and smaller(ish) companis many times made their boards in house with tools available to hobbyists (iron on trace transfers, and a tub of acid).
In the ad above from the June, 1984 issue of Rainbow, you can see a clothed and a nekkid C-C Bus to the right of the CoCo & monitor; and a bunch of empty PCB’s just laying around. By the way, how many of us would’ve done some sketchy stuff for a CoCo kit like this back in the 80’s? I might still today as I type this listening to ‘Roller’ by April Wine; but I digress.
Now to be honest, mine needs some work to rescue it. There appear to be few caps that have blown out their bottoms, and cause corrosion. I’ll probably start the repairs during this week’s CoCo Nation show, but I wanted to get some pics put up. Plus, it’s been a while since my last blog post, damn life, anyway. So, Below are a few pics and I will be documenting my efforts for either education or humiliation. Dependent upon the final results…
