Tandy Computer Center

The Tandy Computer Center!

Who remembers the Radio Shack computer Centers? Go ahead, put your hand up! I sure do. As a kid, every time I went to the Dayton Mall (Ohio) with my parents, that Computer Center is where I’d escape to. Oh, you can put your hands down now…

That was a familiar sight for me. I didn’t care about Spencer’s, or the latest fashion crap or anything like that. I was perfectly happy with the computers.

So a big question is this: why am I talking about this? Quite frankly, I started planning in June for #SepTandy this year. I had several thoughts involving an Armatron and FujiNet, and a few other options. However, July hit and I became ridiculously busy with work and side-work. Then August hit, and I became ludacrisly busy with side work and a cyber…. event that impacted one of my employers long time clients.

Busy became a severe understatement.

So, I needed to come up with a better plan for #SepTandy that could be quickly implemented, since I had zero time for prep. I’ve had this HTML site sitting on the back burner since 2018, mostly used just as a tool to keep my HTML.CSS/JS semi-functional. I already had the CoCo section done years ago, as it’s basically a copy of my site from 2011 – full HTML in all it’s glory. Or ugly, you decide.

While it is still very much a work in progress, I think there’s enough here to put it out for public consumption. Right now, it covers the CoCo lines, and the PC lines, as far as informational data goes. There are currently link pages for the Model I, Model III & IV (coming soon) and TRS-80 Model II, 12, 16 & 6000 – these will have images and much deeper info by the end of #SepTandy. I will also be adding the portables.

I’m sort of treating this like a museum. That’s the goal, anyway. Using HTML/CSS/JS and not a CMS like WordPress (i.e.: my other websites) to create a site that highlights the Radio Shack and Tandy Computer heritage, using retro tech.

It’s name:

tandycomputercenter.com

It is definitely old school. It may even live up to it’s tagline and hurt your eyes. I will be working on it during the rest of the month, so if you’re interested, keep checking it out. Now, on the CoCo #Septandy side, there is another unfinished project I am working on. If you go to the CoCo pages, you’ll find it, it’s linked in the navbar. I’ll talk more about it as I continue to refine it and get some planned features working – unlikely to be finished by the end of #SepTandy. More on that later….
