PBJ CC Bus Conundrum
Another quick update on the PBJ C-C Bus.
One thing I discovered when comparing the schematic to the ‘before’ pictures I took – that 47uf cap isn’t correct. There should be two ceraMIC CAPS THERE AS SHOWN IN THE BOARD LAYOUT BELOW. wHICH BRINGS ME TO ANOTHER POTENTIAL ISSUE. i KNOW pbj SOLD THIS AS A COMPLETE PRODUCT, AND A BARE BOARD. i’M LEANING TOWARDS THIS BEING A BARE BOARD BUILD.
On this board, C1, C15, C16, C17 and C20 are not installed at all. It doesn’t look like they ever were.
-
- C1 – C14 are .01uf ceramic caps
- C15 – C19 are 6.8uf Tantalum caps
- C22 & 23 are 47uf electrolytics
When I began working on this, there was a 47uf electro where C14 was, and I ran with it until I started looking at the schematic to determine if I was going to try to source a wall-wart for power, or use USB-C.
So besides needing to get some ceramic caps (on order from Amazon, a Radio Shack would be freaking awesome right about now), and correct a few things. Next, will be to set up the power. I’ll probably end up using a USB-C 12 volat wall wart, and a buck convertor to step down to the needed 5VDC. In schematic fragment above, the blue circle is where 12vdc would be present on the optional VR2. The red circle is where I’d tap into to spread the 5VDC to the bus and IC’s
I also need to do continuity tests from the IC Vcc legs to make sure the 5VDC does go back to the three via’s circled in red. The schematic is incomplete, and I just want to make sure…
